This Ryan School of Aeronautics PT-20A, with the
original style smaller cockpit, single-piece windshield and wheel and tail
fairing, shows off for the camera over San Diego, 1941. Most Army primary
schools were civilian operated, a stroke of genius. The underfunded Air
Corps could never have hoped to build enough training fields and schools
to cope with the all-out military build-up of 1940-41. Excerpted
by permission from WWII War Eagles, p. 41.
